Alpaca hikes near Warnemünde: all the way to the beach

An alpaca hike near Warnemünde combines fresh sea air, nature and a special encounter with animals. In Diedrichshagen, the roughly two-hour walk with these calm four-legged companions leads all the way to the beach at Wilhelmshöhe. The offer is aimed at holidaymakers, families and anyone who wants to discover the surroundings of Rostock in a relaxed and slightly different way.

The meeting point is the enclosure behind the Strandhafer Aparthotel in the seaside resort of Diedrichshagen, part of Rostock. Before the hike starts, participants have time to get to know the animals in a quiet setting. For children this introduction is especially nice: they are allowed to feed the alpacas and guide them through a small movement course. This builds trust even before the walk begins.

How the hike works

The guided tour is led by occupational therapist Marco Wenzlaff. After the introduction, the group sets off through nature towards the coast. The route to the beach at Wilhelmshöhe combines forest, Baltic Sea air and a pleasantly unhurried pace. This mix is what makes the outing so special.

At the end, participants receive an “alpaca licence” as a keepsake. For children in particular, this is a nice extra that often brings joy long after the trip. Afterwards, everyone returns at an easy pace.

Dates and start times

The group hikes take place regularly:

  • Wednesdays at 5:00 pm
  • Fridays at 5:00 pm
  • Weekends at 10:00 am

If you prefer to walk without a group, you can also book a private alpaca hike for your preferred date, subject to availability.

Prices at a glance

  • 1 person with 1 animal: €50
  • 2 people with 1 animal: €70
  • Children up to 14 years with 1 animal: €40
  • 2 children with 1 animal: €50
  • Family ticket with 1 animal: from €80
  • Family ticket with 2 animals: €100
  • Private hike: from €250

This makes it easy for couples, families and small groups to plan their trip.

Arrival, parking and tickets

The meeting point in Diedrichshagen is clearly marked and easy to reach. Low-cost parking is available behind the Landmarkt. Tickets can be booked online at www.rostock.de and in the tourist information offices of the Hanseatic City of Rostock.

Alpaca hikes are also offered at other locations in Mecklenburg, such as Krakow am See, Teterow and at the Golfhotel Serrahn. For guests staying on the Baltic Sea coast, however, the tour in Diedrichshagen is particularly appealing, as it combines the animal experience and coastal landscape in a very harmonious way.
